I never get tired of this photo.
Ella Fitzgerald was not allowed to play at Mocambo because of her race. Then, one of Ella’s biggest fans made a telephone call that quite possibly changed the path of her career for good. Here, Ella tells the story of how Marilyn Monroe changed her life:
“I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt… she personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. She told him – and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status – that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman – a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it.”
jesus christ this is so much better than all of the “you don’t have to be size zero!!!!!” and “i don’t mind living in a man’s world if i can be a woman!!!!!!!” bullshit related to marilyn monroe i see.
sisterhood yo….

Don’t respond to misandry with misogyny. That doesn’t help.
Argue your point calmly and logically and you’ll come out the bigger person.
Being a misogynist dick makes all of us look bad, just like the misandrist bitches on their side make all feminists look bad.
The worst examples of a group are always the ones that attract the most attention and are assumed to be the norm, like Muslim extremists.
Important.
This! :D

Since people often ask “Alright, well this is fantasy! Why can’t we have boob shapes in plate armor?!” I decided to make a post about it. My frustration has nothing to do with historical inaccuracy and I’m all for imagination and freedom— but I’d like to (very quickly) illustrate this for you:
Ladies I hope getting your nails done feels good because not a single man notices you got them done.
maybe
just maybe
women do some things for themselves and not just for men
what a concept

I think we should collectively endeavor to let John Caniglia of Cleveland, Ohio, know that he is attacking the life of a black trans woman who is already dead.
In another article, Caniglia goes on to quote officers from a police report that had nothing to do with the victim’s murder:
“Acoff gave us verbal information stating that he was a female. Acoff later acknowledged that legal documents listed his identity as a man.”
What this has to do with Acoff’s death is unclear. Caniglia goes on to cover Acoff’s miscellaneous petty crimes, including illegal possession of hormones, macing an attacker on public transportation, and unpaid bus tickets. All of these crimes paint a picture of a queer person of color who has been the butt of ridicule, humiliation, and violence in the Cleveland community, and this continues even after her death.
Please, help hold John Caniglia, “the Plain Dealer” of Cleveland Ohio, accountable for his part in the death, murder, and humiliation of Acoff.
You can contact John Caniglia at 216.999.4097 or jcaniglia@plaind.com.
OMG seriously…

“When a Muslim fraternity from the University of Texas at Dallas took to the streets to protest against domestic violence, these striking pictures made waves around the world. Muslim America rocks — we just don’t hear about it often.”

If anyone actually has knowledge about the Islamic practice, as Muslims we are taught to respect women. Media portrays us to be hateful and sexist. We don’t hate women. We value them. A lot of the true meaning from the Quran/Koran has faded because the current cultures around the world has interpreted the religion into what they want for control. As the people of God/Allah/Yahweh, don’t you think that all we want is to live in a peaceful environment? We all believe in the same God. We believe in your Moses and your Jesus as our Musa and our Isa. We believe in love, treat others how you want to be treated, and finally, we don’t believe in domestic violence.
Anyway, I hope this opened a lot of peoples minds and hearts. We, Muslims, are just like you. :)

There are folks on Imgur pointing out that this is sexual assault.
And, of course, there are folks implying it’s not sexual assault because most guys like this sort of thing. Or something. Vodka’s point isn’t exactly clear.
The fact that people even have to go “if you reversed the genders” in the first place is actually quite telling.
It’s a butt slap, chill out people. Remember when assault used to be used to describe people actually harming one another in some way
As someone who once received unwanted attentions from a girl in a situation a lot like this, in a manner a lot like this;
No.
This isn’t just a butt slap. If men could do this to women and have it called “just a butt slap” and be told “OMFG CALM DOWN” and shit, then it would be.
This is sexual assault. Doesn’t matter if they’re okay with it or not, this is still sexual assault. This is the unwanted touching of your private and personal areas by some random fuck. Not some chick just being funny.
What if one of these men are rape victims and are triggered by her grabbing their ass? SUDDENLY not so funny now is it?

Whistleblowing Wednesday: Children As Young As Six Harvest 25 Percent of U.S. Crops
Knowing the farmer who grows your food has become an important tenet of the modern food movement, but precious little attention is paid to the people who actually pick the crops or “process” the chickens or fillet the fish. U Roberto Romano’s poignant film, The Harvest/La Cosecha (2011), being screened across the country for Farmworker Awareness Week (March 24-29), informs us that nearly 500,000 children as young as six harvest up to 25 percent of all crops in the United States.
What’s illegal in most countries is permitted here. Child migrant labor has been documented in the 48 contiguous states. Seasonal work originates in the southernmost states in late winter where it is warm and migrates north as the weather changes. Every few weeks as families move, children leave school and friends behind. If you’ve had onions (Texas), cucumbers (Ohio or Michigan), peppers (Tennessee), grapes (California), mushrooms (Pennsylvania), beets (Minnesota), or cherries (Washington), you’ve probably eaten food harvested by children.
This isn’t a slavery issue, or an immigration issue per se. What’s remarkable is that most of the migrant child farmworkers are American citizens trying to help their families. This is a poverty issue and it gets to the heart of what we, as consumers, see as the “right price” to pay for food.
Children earn about $1,000 per year for working an average of 30 hours a week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. When you consider that the average annual pay for a migrant family of four is $12,500-$14,500, it’s apparent why some families feel they have no choice but to bring their children into the fields with them. Half of these kids will not graduate from high school because they’re always moving around, perpetuating the cycle of poverty that caused them to be day laborers in the first place.

This is what feminists mean when we talk about rape culture: these cards are considered socially acceptable and men buy them. Women are socialized into believing they are nothing more than fucktoys and men are raised to believe that rape is a joke.
Stores sell merchandise encouraging men to beat and rape women, and men are complaining about misandry hats? Fucking hell.
THE FUCK IS THIS??
But without them, how will we know who to avoid?
Also, I’m pretty sure the point is shock value. It’s shocking because it’s NOT socially acceptable. (At the same time, shock value humor is becoming more socially acceptable. But… it will wear off because either it will become more acceptable to say and hear and therefore not funny, or it will stop being funny to hear due to repetition and will start being offensive again.)I’m for the sale of them actually.
Paints a nice target of misogynistic assholes.
yes^^
